Helping the Helpers

Because Wonder Bug Gifts uses the Cricut line of machines, I am in quite a few Facebook groups of fellow Cricut users. I noticed that people all over the country were decorating their windows with hearts and other images to say thank you to the Essential workers and let the community know we are not alone.

I decided to make an image saying “Thank You Helpers” with images for each essential job. Firefighters, Police Officers, Delivery Drivers, Medical Professionals, Health Department, Grocery/Essential Store Employees and Janitorial Staff. I received so many inquiries from people wanting their own that I decided to make yard signs and sell them as a fundraiser to benefit, someone. I was not sure how or who yet.

Then on the same day I saw Miss Molly’s Cafe in Wauwatosa was offering boxed lunches for Healthcare employees for $15 a piece, AND my friend who is a doctor in the ER at St. Luke’s was diagnosed with Covid-19. In his honor I decided to sell 50 lawn signs for $20 each with one boxed lunch being donated per sign.

I posted on Facebook, Linked In, Next Door and Instagram. We sold out of signs in less than a week!

In the meantime, my friend Dr. Bill had fully recovered and was back at work. It turns out he was being followed by a camera crew for Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien and wanted to have the lunches delivered while he was at the hospital.

So I was able to have the 50 boxed lunches delivered to the staff at Aurora St. Luke’s. It was an amazing experience that I will not soon forget!
